Roseline Frances (Daye) Butts, New Waterford Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Roseline Butts announce her passing on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026 in the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, Roseline was the beloved daughter of the late Charles and Edna (Boutilier) Daye of Dominion.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Patrick (Lois) Butts and daughter, Patricia (Stephen) Hogan. She is also survived by sisters, Ann Currie, Donna (Blaine) Hodder; brother, Kevin Daye; grandchildren, Jessica (Devon) Young, Brittany Butts and Courtney Butts; great-granddaughter, Audrey Young; many cherished nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Roseline was predeceased by her loving husband, Patrick (Paddy) Butts; son, Charles Thomas Gordon Butts and brother-in-law, Frank Currie.
Dominion Beach held a special place in Roseline's heart. Having grown up in Dominion, the beach is where she made countless cherished memories with friends and family. It remained one of her favorite places throughout her life and will always be remembered as a place of happiness and treasured moments.
Roseline was a loving wife and devoted mother whose family was at the center of her life. She worked for many years as a mother's helper for the Myer Chernin family, where she formed lasting friendships and became a cherished part of their lives.
She dedicated many years to serving as a Brownie leader guiding and inspiring countless young girls with kindness, patience and enthusiasm.
Roseline loved spending time with her family and especially treasured her trips to Saskatchewan to visit her son and his family. Those visits, including time at their cabin and with Audrey creating many happy memories that she held close to her heart.
She was blessed with lifelong friendships, including her dear friend, Patsy Pembroke. Roseline also enjoyed her daily visits with her many special friends at Tim Hortons.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Unit and everyone involved with her care.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Father Jim Oliver officiating. Burial will follow in St. Agnes cemetery, New Waterford. Donations in her memory may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
