It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, Marvin C. Taylor, on August 22, 2026 in the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, at the age of 84.

Born in New Waterford April 5, 1942, he was the son of the late Clyde Taylor and Nancy (Heron) Sheppard. Marvin was also predeceased by a brother, Andy Sheppard.

Marvin had many occupations over his lifetime; from coal mining in New Waterford, assembly line worker at Mack Truck in Ontario, fisherman in Inverness, and a carpenter. He was definitely a jack of all trades who made an impression everywhere he went as well as many friends along the way.

Marvin retired to Framboise where he lived for 33 years. It was there he enjoyed his passion of hunting, fishing, farming, and gardening. He always had an open door policy where all were welcome. If you visited dad as a stranger, you left as a friend. He had a huge heart and loved life. Many say Marvin was "The Pioneer of Framboise" and put it on the map.

Left behind to mourn are three sisters, Edith Finlayson, Nancy Landry and Heather Sheppard Misiurka; two brothers, Phillip Sheppard and Mark Sheppard; daughters, Edith Taylor, Debbie Taylor Sherman (Scott), Carollee Taylor (Gary) and bonus daughter, Debbie Young. Also surviving are daughters, Thresa Fortin (Ross), Marion Chisholm; son, James Syms; three nieces, Marie Finlayson, Gail Lowes, and Glory Finlayson; grandchildren, Alexandra Taylor, Samantha Taylor, Shayla Boker, Shauna Gaudette, and Sean Briand; many more nieces and nephews and grandchildren. 

Special thank-you to his Celtic Court family who took great care of our dad over  the years. Also to all the staff, nurses and doctors of the ER Department, 4A and everyone in the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for taking such great care of our father.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 28 from noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Rev. Jim MacNaughton officiating. A reception will take place in the funeral home immediately after the service. Cremation will follow with burial in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown, at a later date.
