Obituary of Ronnie Spencer, New Waterford

We regret to inform you of the passing of a wonderful father, son, brother, and friend, Ronnie Spencer, 49, after a long fight with Huntington's disease, on May 17, 2017. He was surrounded by his two beautiful daughters and their mom at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in New Waterford May 13, 1968, he was the son of Reynelda Roach and the late Freeman Spencer.

Ronnie worked with Cape Breton Regional Municipality Engineering Dept. He loved going to work. His co-workers were his second family. He had a witty sense of humour, enjoyed practical jokes, and loved to laugh. Ronnie was a wonderful father. His proudest days were when Morgan and Madisyn were born. He loved his girls! He would spend summers camping with his girls and had many laughs which will be cherished. His life was centered around them. He would also find the time to do anything for anyone. He had the biggest heart.

Ronnie is survived by his two daughters, Morgan and Madisyn and their mom, Cathy McRury; his best friend and stepdaughter, Meghan Gouthro (Brennan). He is also survived by his mother, Reynelda and brothers, Dwayne (Heather), Ontario and Timmy (Terri), New Waterford; nieces, Hannah and Abby and nephew, Jack; stepbrother, Frank Roach (Wanda), Coxheath; stepsisters, Dorthy Neville, Eileen Cashin (Johnnie), Cathy Doyle (Paul) and all their children, all of New Waterford; many aunts and uncles; special friends and co-workers, Jen, Billy, Derick, and the Spruce Street gang.

Besides his father, he was also predeceaced by his stepfather, Eugene Roach, stepsister, Rose MacNeil, and brother-in-law, Francis Neville.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 6-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Saturday, May 20 at 10 a.m in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Dan Boudreau officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, New Victoria, with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.

Special thank you to the nursing staff at the Palliative Care Unit and the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, second floor. Your compassion to Ronnie and us will never be forgotten.
