Obituary of Catherine 'Peggy' (Gillis) MacIntyre, New Waterford

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Catherine 'Peggy' (Gillis) MacIntyre, 93, on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford.

Born in South West Margaree, she was a daughter of the late Angus and Elizabeth (MacDonald) Gillis.

Peggy lived on Farquhar Road in South West Margaree before moving to New Waterford where she met and married John MacIntyre. They would go on to raise six children whom they adored. During war times, she lived in Montreal and was employed at an Airplane factory. Peggy was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 15, and the Gaelic Society. She was fluent in Gaelic and loved singing Gaelic tunes. Peggy had a wide circle of friends and loved playing darts at the Legion. She also enjoyed dancing, especially to 'In The Mood' at the Scotchtown Pensioners' Club. Peggy tirelessly cared for her loving daughter, Charlotte, and would never complain. She was a positive woman of strong faith and will be missed by all.

Surviving are daughters, Mary (Rudy) Mullins, New Waterford, Helen MacIntyre (Jerry Cormier), Sydney, Florence (Louie-deceased) Campbell, Manitouwadge, Ont; 14 grandchildren, who referred to her as a 'one of a kind grandmother'; 20 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Gloria MacNeil. Peggy was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John MacIntyre; infant son, John; daughters, Hughena Ratchford, Kay Hogan, and Charlotte MacIntyre; brothers, D.A. Gillis, Charlie Gillis, Big Alex Gillis; sisters, Margaret MacArthur, Katie MacIsaac, Annie MacIsaac, and Lexena Gillis.
