Obituary of Mary Mugford, Glace Bay

Mary (Martin) Mugford
Glace Bay

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Mary Christina Mugford, age 102 on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Glace Bay  Hospital.

Born in Glace Bay, Mary was the daughter of the late Seward and Lena (MacNeil) Martin.

In her earlier years, Mary loved to listen to music and play bingo and cards. She looked forward to her weekly scat game with her family. Mary always had the teapot on and anyone that came to her door was invited in for a cup of tea and a sandwich.

Mary was happiest when surrounded by, and cooking for, her large family. Mary loved her family beyond all else, and she would do anything for her children and grandchildren. She was a great mother and was loved and cherished by her whole family.

Mary is survived by her four daughters, Shirley Wilkie, Mary Gracie (John), Linda Curran, Barbara MacDonald (Nonnie). She is also survived by her son, Norm Mugford (Clara), her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, all who loved her dearly.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her first husband, John Joe McNeil and her second husband, Donald James Mugford.

She was predeceased by her sons, John McNeil, Michael McNeil, Don Mugford, daughter, Diane Ruelland, sons in law, John Curran, Jackie Wilkie, Jules Ruelland and by her sister, Agnes and brother, James.

Mary was a long time resident of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay. We could never thank the staff there enough for how good they were to our Mom while she was there.
The family would also like to thank the staff of the Glace Bay Hospital for the kindness and compassion they showed to us.

Visitation for Mary will held on Tuesday, December, 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel followed by interment in St. John's Cemetery. A reception will take place at the Hub Athletic Club.

Memorial donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation. On line condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca
