Obituary of Kathleen Maureen MacLeod, Glace Bay

Kathleen ‘Maureen’ MacLeod

Glace Bay

With broken hearts we said goodbye to our Mom and Nan on Wednesday February 7, 2018. There is now a void in our life that will never be filled.

Born in Glace Bay on September 28, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Ben and Gert (MacIntyre) Hurley.  Mom grew up in the ‘Hub’ and lived for over 60 years on North Street.

Mom leaves behind in sadness her children, Trudy, Bernie (Keith), Terry (Leeann), Viola, Jamie, Shannon (Robbie), Sean, Shane and Kathy (Eddie).  Her 17 grandchildren who were her pride and joy and will miss their Nan very much, Christopher Lee and Colin (Angela) Appleton, Terry and Matthew (Vanessa) Cuzner, Brandon (Leanne)  O’Connell, Jesse (Lindsay) and Garett MacInnis, Bethany (Steve) Young,  Mackie (Candace) and Alex MacLeod,  Brittany and Rob Mullins, Samantha (Matt) and Connor MacLeod, Victoria (Samantha) Higgins, Chloé and Emily Landry.

She will be sadly missed by her 12 great-grandchildren.  Mom is survived by her sisters, Colleen Cathcart and Elizabeth Toulouse and her brother, Bernie Hurley.

Her feline best friend, Morgan, is going to be lost without her.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Mackie, her daughter, Colleen ‘Todd’ and grandson B.J. Currie, sister, Delorus Scott and brother, Jerry Hurley and sister, Bernadette in infancy.

Mom loved nothing more than being surrounded by family.  She was one of the strongest women we knew.  Besides spending time with her family, Mom loved her hockey.  If hockey were on TV 24/7 she would not miss a game.  In earlier years she enjoyed bowling and darts.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home on 16 Reserve Street in Glace Bay.  Funeral mass will be at St. Anne’s Church on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.  Reception to follow.

Family flowers only.  In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Parkinson’s Society or a charity of one’s choice. On line condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca
