It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful sister, Rita Germaine Stevenson, age 81 of Glace Bay on Friday, June 10, 2016 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.

Born in Glace Bay, Germaine was the daughter of the late John and Mary Jane (Coleman) Currie.

Germaine worked at Household Finance. She loved to travel with her husband, Donnie Stevenson. Germaine enjoyed her bungalow in Mira where she entertained family and friends. She also enjoyed walking and skating. We take comfort in knowing Germaine had a wonderful and comfortable life.

She is survived by her three sisters, Anne (Bernie) O’Laney, Bernice Steele, Ursula (Greg) O’Brien and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Germaine was predeceased by her husband, Donnie, sister, Margie Kelly and her brother, Johnny Currie.

Following Germaine’s wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. A celebration of her life will take place on Tuesday with a funeral mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church followed by a reception in the church foyer. Fr. Leo Boone will officiate. Interment will be held in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

We would like to extend sincere thanks for the amazing care Germaine received from the New Waterford Hospital during her illness. The nurses on the 2nd floor were wonderful to her and her family. A special thank you to Germaine’s neighbours, Joe and Mary.
