Obituary of R. Marie MacDonald, Reserve Mines

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rose Marie MacDonald, age 77 on Monday, April 4th, 2022 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay and raised in Reserve Mines, Marie was the daughter of the late Baptist and Mary Catherine (McNeil) Boutilier. Marie had a strong faith and was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Reserve Mines. She was the manager of Cape Care Services (New Dawn), Sydney and always had a strong work ethic. Marie loved animals and especially enjoyed feeding the birds. She also loved to sing and play the guitar. Marie was well known in the Reserve Mines area as her and her husband, Frank owned & operated a corner store on Belgium Street. But mostly, Marie will be remembered as a kind and compassionate lady, always there to lend a helping hand. She is survived by her two daughters, Tanya (Shawn) Skinner, Roxanne (Alex) MacEachern, two sisters, Catherine (John) Hart, Ann (Roger) Doucette, four grandchildren, Franki Skinner, Sandy, Colin, Heather MacEachern and one great grandson. Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by her husband, Collin Francis “Frank” MacDonald in 2015, daughter, Wendy, sister, Mary MacNeil, two brothers, John Francis & Daniel Boutilier and a special aunt, Rosie Boutilier. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, April 7th, 2022 from 7 - 9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 am in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines followed by interment in the parish cemetery. Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating. A special thank you to the staff at Wentworth Court, Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility for their kindness and compassion. Memorial donations in memory of Marie may be made to your local S.P.C.A.
