Obituary of Eleanor (Blois) Brownell , Glace Bay, New Waterford

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Eleanor Brownell, age 77 on Tuesday, November 1st, 2022 at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.

Born in Glace Bay, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Alfred & Christina (McPhee) Blois.

She moved to New Waterford in the 1980’s with her husband, Graham Brownell and resided there right up until her very short stay at Seaview Manor.

Eleanor will be remembered as a strong, hard-working, independent lady who loved her family dearly. She enjoyed many things in life, some of which included, solving crossword puzzles, watching television, especially her beloved Toronto Blue Jays and Montreal Canadiens, going to dances, baking tea biscuits, attending the Screaming Eagles or the former Cape Breton Oilers hockey games, listening to music and also singing, as she was a member of both the Coal Town Chorus and St. Anthony’s Church Choir, Glace Bay.

Eleanor loved animals and had many cats as company throughout the years, she also fed many hungry crows and seagulls in the neighborhood.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Brenda Ford (Robert Newman), son, Peter Ford, two sisters, Rita “Net” (Keith Mulvey), Linda (Gerald Croney), one brother, Lawrence (Colleen) and her two grandchildren whom she adored, Vikki Ford (Johnathan Dedrick) and Ryan Ford.

She will also be missed by her grand dog Ellee, who always could put a smile on her face and her two great grand cats Nash & Miner.

Besides her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her loving husband, Graham Brownell, seven siblings, Dorothy, Alfred Junior, Reggie, Sylvia, Jackie, Rose and Jerry and her two cats, Toby and Grey.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Glace Bay.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay on Monday, November 7th, 2022 at 10 a.m. followed by a reception in the church hall with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. Interment in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
