Obituary of Lucy Jackson, Glace Bay

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our mother Lucy (Whalen) Jackson, 83, on August 10th 2023, at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.

 

Lucy was born in Glace Bay and was the daughter of the late James and Sarah (Waye) Whalen.

 

Lucy was a loving, kind and energetic person. She enjoyed meeting people and her friendly and caring personality will be remembered by many. She worked for years at the Medical Hall drugstore in Glace Bay where she enjoyed serving and chatting with the customers both young and old.

 

Mom’s greatest love was for her children and grandchildren. She provided her four children with the love, guidance and encouragement to be the best people we could be. As a grandmother she was simply incredible. Grandma Lucy just had a way to connect with all of these different little personalities and allowed them to shine.

 

Lucy is survived by her four children, Ernie Jr, Glenn (Maryellen), Ronnie (Jacquie), and Sherry, and by her grandchildren Christopher, Tyler, Daniel, Ryan, Anna, Molly, Mark, Brett and Sarah, and four great grandchildren, Devyn, Liam, Lucy and Rory.

 

She is also survived by the father of her children, Ernie Sr. (Anna), two brothers, Lou (Patsy) and Rannie (Marilyn), along with many nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her parents, Lucy was predeceased by her brothers Junior, Joe, Hank, and sisters Velma, Nina, Ursula, Mary Lou, and Hughena.

 

The family would like to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Michael Gallivan for taking care of Mom over the years. We thank the staff of 3B at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and staff of 3 East at the Glace Bay Hospital for their care during Mom’s recent illness.  We would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Seaview Manor for everything they did for our Mom over the last four years. Your efforts are very much appreciated.

 

Visitation is Sunday evening, August 13^th, 2023 from 7-9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.

 

The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee is Monday, August 14^th at 1 pm in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wallace Road.
