Obituary of Donald Matheson Marks, Dominion

We the family of Donald Matheson Marks announce his peaceful passing on August 9, 2023 at home with loving family by his side.

 

Donnie was born in Sydney, NS on April 28, 1936 to the late Blanche (Powell) and Walter Donald Marks.

 

He is survived by his daughter Donna (Mary) Marks and son Brian (Daphne) Marks, grandchildren Dan (Hailey) Shearer and Ryan (Allyssa) Barrie and great grandchildren Abigail, Stella, Zeke, Jaxon, Sloan and Brecken.

 

He also leaves behind his brother Walter (Yolanda) Marks and sister Mary Lou Cox, sisters in law, Theresa Gillis, Angela Hickey, Mary (Andrew) Lessing-Turner, Marilyn (Mike) Pothier, Joan Marks and several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides his parents, he was pre deceased by his loving wife Stella (Cechetto) Marks, brothers Bob, Bill and Doug, brothers in law Jack Cox, Frank Gillis and Peter Hickey as well as his sister in law, Renee Marks.

 

Dad was employed with Devco for 33 years in the accounting department. He was a proud Scout leader in both Dominion and Glace Bay. An avid golfer, he putted a hole in one as a member of the Lingan Golf and Country Club. He loved music and enjoyed countless hours playing guitar and entertaining in local nursing homes. Dad looked forward to playing cribbage multiple days a week. He was a long time Toronto Blue Jay, CB Screaming Eagles and Detroit Red Wings fan.

 

Dad’s number one priority was family. Always ready to listen and offer advice and support. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 2-4, 7-9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.

 

The funeral service is Wednesday at 11 am in the funeral home chapel followed by a reception then burial in Forest Haven Cemetery.  Rev. Alison Etter officiating.
