Glace Bay / Windsor, NS

It is with a heavy heart that we say good bye to the Matriarch of our family, Mildred “Millie” (McDonald) Quann.

Millie passed away at the age of 97 on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024 at Dykeland Lodge Nursing Home, Windsor, NS.

Born in Glace Bay, NS to Kenneth and Lillie (Gallant) McDonald.  She was predeceased by husband John Quann, sister Kaye Colosimo, daughter, Judith Quann and grandchildren, Ailsa Quann and Brandon Quann.

She is survived by her four sons, Kenneth Quann, Robert Quann (Margaret), Gary Quann (Mona) and James Quann (Leah), her sister- in law, Gladys Aucoin and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Millie was an amazing woman, loved by all.  She was an incredible mother, outstanding grandmother and just all round loving and caring to everyone she met.  Until the past few years, she spent her whole life in Glace Bay. She was an active member of St Anthony’s Parish until it closed at which time she moved to Holy Cross Parish.

She was also a member of St Anne’s Sodality.  She enjoyed her time at Church and even during Covid she would watch her Mass daily on TV.  She enjoyed her Tuesday night club, cards at the pensioners club and she loved her bowling.  She also enjoyed anytime spent with family and friends and enjoyed a monthly trip to the Sydney Casino with Gladys.

She was a kind, loving and caring woman and we were blessed to be part of her life.  She left a lasting impression on everyone she met and she will be sadly missed.

The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 24th, 2024 at 10 am in Holy Cross Parish Church, 234 Seaview Street, Glace Bay, NS B1A1P6; followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment in St Anthony’s Cemetery, Glace Bay. Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding.

In lieu of flowers we would ask that donations be made to the Diabetes Association, as that was a charity close to her heart.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. On line condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca
