Obituary of Georgina "Gina" (Favaro)Arbuckle, Port Caledonia

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, Georgina “Gina” Arbuckle, age 93 of Port Caledonia. Georgina passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Victoria Haven Nursing Home where she resided for the past four years.

Born in Donkin, Gina was the daughter of the late Luigi and Bertha (Young) Favaro.

In her younger years, Gina was employed at Victoria Haven Nursing home as a cook. Some of her pastimes included, cooking, baking, reading and making quilts. She was a member of the UCW, the Rebekah Lodge and an auxiliary member of the Royal Canadian Legion, all in Donkin. Gina will always be remembered for her uplifting spirit, beautiful smile and great sense of humor.

She is survived by her three daughters, Janet Howley (Daniel-deceased), Vivian (Robert MacIsaac), both of Port Caledonia, Barbara Bigley (Shawn), Glace Bay, three sons, Tom (Mona), Dennis, both in Alberta, Steward (Jean Anne), Donkin, one brother, Leo (Doreen), Michigan, USA, daughter in law, Nancy, 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Gina also supported and helped raise 15 foster children.

Gina was predeceased by her husband, James “Jimmy” Arbuckle, two sons, Jimmy and Stephen, five sisters, Lena, Marie, Louise, Florence, Isabel and two brothers, Anthony and Basil Favaro.

Cremation has taken place. The Rebekah’s will hold a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 5th followed by a visitation from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.

The funeral service officiated by Rev. Robert “Bob” Biggar is Tuesday at 2 p.m. in St. Luke’s United Church, Donkin followed by a reception in the church hall. After the reception, interment will take place in St. Luke’s United Cemetery.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Victoria Haven Nursing Home for the compassion and love shown to Gina throughout the years.
