With heavy hearts we the family of Wallace Tighe, age 88, announce his passing. Wallace passed away surrounded by his loving family on June 3rd, 2017 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in New Waterford, June 29, 1928, he was the son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Turnbull) Tighe, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Wallace lived most of his life in the New Waterford Lake area of New Victoria and more recently he resided at Taigh-Na-Mara, Glace Bay.   He was a member of the former St. Joseph’s Church, New Victoria and presently St. Leonard’s Church, New Waterford.

After the war he stayed on with the Canadian Army and served with their military police. He later returned home and worked in the mines for a time before he became a pipefitter. While working as a pipefitter, he was a 53 year member of the Pipefitters Union, Local #682, in Sydney. He was also a life-long member of both the Army Navy Airforce #217 and the Allan MacDonald Royal Canadian Legion Branch #15; both in New Waterford.

Wallace enjoyed his times spent fishing and working on vehicles; especially when he was involved in our local stock car racing.  He will mainly be remembered by many as a very quiet and generous man who was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Wallace will be sadly missed by his nine loving children; Wally (Cathy), Valerie, Catherine (Joe), Wilson (Debbie), Bobby (Nancy), Cecil ``Bubbles``, all of New Victoria; Marilyn, Bev (Wayne) and Darlene all of P.E.I.: He will also be missed by his 23 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
