Obituary of George William Syms, New Waterford

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, George William Syms, on August 14, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hopsital, Sydney.

George was born February 23, 1949, the son of the late Benny and Alice (Williams) Syms.

He was a very kind, caring, humourous man who lived by his own set of rules.

George is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Eileen (Blewer); daughter, Lisa (John); son, Troy (Dawn) and daughter, Laurie and son-in-law, Darnell; grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan, Brilynn, Lana, Marley, Liam and Cole; great-grandson, Leland, and his best 'furry' friend, Wynn.

George is also survived by his beloved sister, Dolly Bailey; beloved brothers, Louis (Hazel), Harvey (Sheila), Pat (Heather), Ont., as well as Eddie, Adrian and David. Also, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who shared in his laughter and loved him dearly. 

George loved playing the guitar and listening to music, especially his idol, 'George Jones'. He also loved playing darts and softball and chatting with family and friends on Facebook. He truly enjoyed spending time watching the cruise ships with his grandson, Liam. 

Besides his parents, George was predeceased by a brother Benny and good buddy, Waylon. George will be dearly missed and be forever in our hearts.

Visitation will take place on Friday, August 17, 2018 from 7-9 p.m in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will be held on Saturday, August 18 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
