Obituary of Bryan Raymond Duhamel

Bryan Raymond Duhamel M.B. Glace Bay It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of my husband, Bryan, son, brother, uncle & friend. Bryan, age 67, passed away on August 10, 2016 at the Glace Bay Hospital with family at his side. It was Bryan’s strong faith and belief in God that helped him during his illness. All during his illness whenever asked how he was doing he would say, "I’m doing OK". Bryan is survived by his wife of 45 years Lillian (Bray), mother Frieda (Herrmann) Duhamel, sisters, Anna (Don), Debbie (Mike), brothers, Charlie (Catherine), Emile (Diane), sisters-In-law, Jean and Susan, brothers-in-law, Gerald and Damian (Mary), nephew, Derek and niece Laurie Jean, who were like a son and daughter to him. Bryan is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins as well as numerous friends. Bryan was predeceased by his father, Charles, as well as in laws, Gerry and Mary Bray and brother-in-law-Clifford Eliuk. Bryan was an avid sportsman. In his early years he played ball and hockey, bowled, skied, and played darts. He also fished and hunted. He developed a passion for golf and most days could be found on the Seaview Golf Course with his golfing buddy, Mike White. Bryan achieved what few golfers have accomplished -- he aced a Hole In One at Bell Bay Golf Course in 1998. Bryan worked at Devco for over 35 years retiring as overman. He was a Draegerman and was involved in many annual competitions and was on several winning teams. He travelled across Canada and to the U.S. to compete. Bryan was awarded the Medal of Bravery for his participation in the rescue/recovery during the Westray Mine Disaster. He was janitor at the Bank of Nova Scotia for over 25 years, and most recent maintenance man at Marco Hearing Health Centre. Bryan was known as the "go to guy". He was a hard worker and was always ready and available to help anyone regardless of the task, no job was too small or too big. He will be dearly missed by all. Bryan was a member of Holy Family Parish until its closing. He served on Parish Council and was a member of the hall and reception committees. He was a Eucharist Minister and altar server and carried forward with these duties when he transferred to St. Joseph’s Parish in Reserve after Holy Family closed. Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Bryan will be held on Friday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 13 at 11 o’clock in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines with Father Danny Boudreau officiating. Burial at Forest Haven with the reception to follow in the church hall. Family flowers only. Donations in Bryan’s memory may be made to Palliative Care, Cancer Centre, Holy Family/St Josephs, Cemetery or to a charity of one’s choice.
