Greg O’Brien, age 88 of Glace Bay passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 13th, 2018 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.


Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Michael Joseph and Alice (Hurley) O’Brien.


Greg worked for many years with Devco Railroad. He was an avid fisherman and bowler. He introduced many school children to the sport of bowling. He was a very social and friendly person who would stop and talk to anyone and everyone he met. Family was very important to Greg.


Those left to carry his memory are his three daughters, Arlene Taylor (David), Little Harbour, Shelly Gates (Bruce), Halifax, Kelly O’Brien (Paul), Sydney, 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


Besides his parents, Greg was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Ursula (Currie) O’Brien, his brother, Danny O’Brien, 2 sisters, Rita O'Brien and Mamie Clements.


There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Dan Boudreau is Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the foyer. Interment in the parish cemetery.
