It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father and brother, Alfred James McKenzie, age 74 on Friday, August 12th, 2016 at Taigh Na Mara surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay on November 27, 1941, Alfred was the son of the late John and Jessie (Campbell) MacKenzie.
Alfred joined the Military RCR in 1961 to 1974 where he served overseas, serving in Germany and Cyprus. After his services in the military he worked for the city of London for 27 years.
Alfred is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia (Paton) and children, Chris (Leslie) and Joanne (Angelo) Manzara. He is also survived by his brothers, John (Rita), James; sisters, Carmel (Len) Doucette, Arlene (John) McVarish, grandchildren, Paton, Cameron, Maddison, Finnegan, Angus, Scott, Rain and nieces, nephews .
Besides his parents, Alfred is predeceased by his brothers, Milton, Aubrey; Joseph and Garfield in infancy; sister, Faye (Vic) VandenBossche.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. MacLean and the staff at Taigh Na Mara also to our special friends, Rita and Peter.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 16th from 7-9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. A funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17th at St. Anne Church, Glace Bay, with Father Norman MacPhee presiding. Cremation will follow and Interment will be held at a later date. Legion members are welcome to attend.
