Obituary of Florence Theresa Meery, River Ryan

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Florence Theresa Meery, age 91, on Friday, November 23, 2018 in the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in New Waterford, Florence was the daughter of the late Leo and Sarah (McDonald) Currie. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Florence worked as kitchen staff in the original New Waterford Hospital until her retirement. She was an avid cook and baker and loved to travel.

Florence is survived by her two sons, Michael 'Buddy' (Helene), Hammonds Plains, Eldon (Michele), New Waterford; eight grandchildren, Vanessa, Shawn, Kendra, Lynzee, Bonnie, Ricky, Paula, and Michael; great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Florence was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Henry 'Heinie'; her daughter, Brenda; four sisters, Kay, Agnes, Teenie, and Margie; one brother, Angus.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to New Waterford Homecare, the staff at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, Seaview Manor, and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. We would also like to especially thank Florence's three special nieces, Chris Meery, Freda Cameron, and Helen Rockett for all their continued help and support over the last few years.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will be held on Wednesday, November 28, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. A Mother's Love

A mother's love is the closest thing

That we may ever know,

Who can describe a mother's love

it's such a special thing;

Sweet and pure as a robin's song,

or dew the first morning of spring.

A mother's love will never fail,

She'll stand beside you

Through thick and thin,

Just because she loves you so.

A mother's love can brighten your world

like a ray of warm sunshine;

But nowhere else could there ever be

A mother quite like mine.
