Obituary of Gerald Terrance Doyle

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Terrance Doyle, a loving husband, wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Edward and Anastasia (Wall) Doyle. He passed peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his loving son Gerald and brother John at his side. When speaking about Gerald, people always use the same words; gentleman, kind and dedicated to his family and friends, especially his wife Brenda. Throughout life, he and Brenda were always there for each other in an incredible loving and sweet romantic way. Their relationship is often compared by many to that of the love story The Note Book. Over the past four years, his wife needed special care. Gerald was always by her side, providing everything she needed and more. Gerald had a very special bond with his son. Their passion for sports made them best friends as they never missed a hockey or baseball game together. Gerald worked as a labourer with the Labourers’ International Union Local 1115. He is survived by his wife Brenda (Tighe); son Gerald Doyle; daughters Lila Farrugia (Fred), Carol Murray-Rodriguez (Leo); special nephew James Doyle (Tina); grandchildren Shayna, Brea and Tanner; brothers John Doyle (Rosina); sisters Jenny Timmons (Jim), Kathleen Bragg, Jeanette Tighe, Mary Corbett and several loving nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Gerald was predeceased by one sister Eileen and two brothers, James and Neil. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held on Saturday, August 20 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. A luncheon will follow at St. Leonard's Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford. Donations in Gerald’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Patient Care Fund. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
