We, the family of Alice Theresa (Barron) Ryan, announce her passing into a new life.

Mom passed on Saturday, January 5th, 2019 at 5:35 pm at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with her family by her side.

Age 89 and born in Glace Bay on November 9th 1929, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Hanrahan) Barron.

Mom raised her family on Shaft Street in Glace Bay. She would say her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. Mom was a woman of great faith and unconditional love. She had a kind and generous heart.

Surviving are her two sons, John (Judy), Glace Bay, Frank (Jenny), Sydney; daughter, Georgina (Brian) MacLellan, Halifax; brother, Michael (Alma) of Kamloops B.C.; sisters, Mary Agnes ‘Mollie’ Moffat and Genevieve Eileen ‘Tootsie’ MacGillivary. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Alice was predeceased by her husband, John Anthony Ryan, 2005; brothers, Douglas and Francis and sisters, Rita, Kay, Joan and Rose.

Thank you to the staff of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, for your kindness, compassion, attention and care provided to our mom. Also thank you to Dr. Tom Curry and the excellent staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Cremation has taken place and at her request there will be no visitation. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.

A funeral mass to celebrate mom’s life will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10 am in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. A reception will take place in the church hall following the mass. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
