Obituary of Alvin Vincent MacGillivary, New Waterford

It is sadness we announce the passing of Alvin Vincent MacGillivary, 57, of Glace Bay, formerly of New Waterford, on Thursday, January 24, 2019.

Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Dan and Bernadette (Keigan) McGillivary.

In younger years, Alvin enjoyed playing hockey and attending local basketball games, especially the Coal Bowl Classic at Breton Education Centre.

Surviving are his brother, Donald W. (Catherine) MacGillivary; sisters, Jacqueline MacGillivary and Sally (Howard) Andrews; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Alvin was predeceased by a sister, Marlene Griffin.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Graveside prayers will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Michael’s Cemetery, River Ryan.
