Obituary of Edward Leon 'Eddie' Syms, New Waterford/Sydney

It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Edward Leon 'Eddie' Syms, 74, on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his fiancee, Margaret and daughter, Shauna.

Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Alice (Williams) Syms.

In younger years, Eddie worked for various bus companies in Ontario. When he moved home, he was employed with his brother's company, J.L. Syms Towing, for over 20 years. Eddie loved the outdoors and looked forward to his many fishing and hunting trips with his brother, Harvey. He had a big heart and was willing to help anyone in their time of need. He will be sorely missed by all.

Surviving are his partner of 20 years, Margaret  MacLellan and her son, Nicholas; children, Shelley, Shauna (Patrick), and Steven (Jennifer); grandchildren, Jessica, Cody, and Sarah; brother and best friend, Harvey (Sheila); brothers, Louie (Hazel), Patrick (Heather), Adrian, David (Lynda); sister, Dolly Bailey.

Besides his parents, Eddie was predeceased by brothers, Bennie and George; godson, Jonathan.

Special thanks to Traci Brake and Berry Aucoin. Your kindness is immeasurable. To the ER, ICU and Palliative Care staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, you were all amazing this past week. 

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. As per Eddie's wishes,there will be no visitation or funeral service.Donations in his memory may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the IWK.
