I never had the pleasure of meeting “Gran” but I felt like I had pleasure of knowing her for several years through tales from her grand daughters who Carry on the great spirit and character to which she was known for - particularly when a match of scrabble is at hand. Katie was such a great friend and supporter of the Gillis family, particularly my mother, Olive (Ollie) Gillis, and my recently deceased brother, Chris Gillis. Of course, I have also been a beneficiary of Katie’s warmth, generosity and “east coast” hospitality during several visits to Cape Breton. She and Ronald (Senior) raised a wonderful family that exemplified family values and community involvement. Her warmth, love, genuine friendship, loyalty and encouragement (and culinary skills) will be missed by many, especially her family, relatives, friends, and church community.
Love you, Katie.

To Irene and the Beaton family........I am so saddened over the passing of Katie. Although we met late in life; (at 4 North) we quickly became friends in part because of her beautiful personality. I so enjoyed my chats with her when I visited my mother. Family was always part of that conversation and she spoke highly of you all. God Bless you during the difficult time.

I want to send my deepest condolences to Anne Marie, Irene, Theresa & John, and Ronnie, Mary and all the Beaton family. I was very lucky to have had the privilege of taking my mom to Ireland along with Anne Marie and Katie in 2001 and what a wonderful time we had. Katie was also the most wonderful cook who could bake anything, and her pies were worth travelling all the way from Yellowknife to Cape Breton to sample. Katie expressed her great love for her family through wonderful Sunday lunches along with Irene, another wonderful cook. Rest in Peace Katie, the world is a lonelier place without you. God bless.

Dear Ronnie, Anne Marie and Teresa and your extended family.
I received a text on the weekend telling me about Katie's passing.
I was immediately transferred back in time....growing up in Scotchtown, and the many kindnesses extended to me by Katie,Ronnie, Irene and the great respect I had for "Bubba".
I have fond memories of visits to your home, ping pong, going swimming at Domion Beach and praying the Rosary in Irene's car while travelling.
The joys of childhood stay with us all our lives.
I am spending the Winter in Florida, and helping at a large Parish. I remembered dear Katie at my weekend Masses and will be joined with you in prayer at the her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday.
You were blessed to have her for so long but now she is receiving the reward of her goodness and kindness. AND....we will see her again. Blessings.
