It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Michael James MacNeil, age 89 of Glace Bay. Dad died at home surrounded by family. 

He was the son of the late Joseph and Sadie (Royal) MacNeil.

A quiet man, Dad wouldn't hesitate to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was a hard worker and a very strong man whom everyone knew as BIG MIKE. Dad was an Army Veteran and served his country during WWII. He was employed over the years by J.W. Stevensons, The Heavy Water Plant and commissionaire at U.C.C.B.

He is survived by his daughter, Janet (Deigo), sons, Michael, Perry (Tracy), Gilbert (Roseanne) and granddaughter, Linaya. Dad had eleven siblings, Eric, Danny, Joey, Ronnie, Jerry, Gordie, Jeanette, Phyllis, Joan, Evelyn and Mary. 

Besides his parents,he was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Olive (MacAulay).

Upon Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate his life will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home and Reception Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay at 2p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019 with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding with a luncheon to follow in the funeral home.
