Obituary of Shirley Louise Spencer

Shirley Louise Spencer Dominion It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear daughter and sister, Shirley Spencer on Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay on January 4, 1951, she was the daughter of Elvira Spencer and the late Eldon Lyle Spencer. Shirley was a long-time resident of Dominion. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her mother, Elvira Spencer of Seaview Manor; her siblings, Ena (Paul) Cowley, Collingwood, ON; Mendel (Margaret) Spencer, Kanata, ON; George (Sharon) Spencer, Lingan, NS; Sandra (Jerry) McNamara, LW Sackville, NS; Theresa (Duane) MacKinnon, Calgary, AB; Mary (Bill) Madore, Kingston, ON; Darrell (Annette) Spencer, Glace Bay, NS; and her many nieces and nephews, David, Stephen, Matthew, Leanne, Shauna, Julianne, Bryan, Renee, Eldon, Kevin, Nicole, Holly, Ashley and Breanna and 3 grand nieces. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel followed by a reception. Lay Minister, Martha MacDonald officiating. Interment will be held at Baptist Church Cemetery, Cove Road, Homeville, South Head. Special thanks to the wonderful and caring doctors, nurses and staff in both Glace Bay and the Regional Hospital who cared for Shirley in her last days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Shirley’s memory.
