Obituary of Arnel Clayton Barrie, North Sydney
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Arnel Clayton Barrie on March 13, 2019 at the New Waterford Hospital.
He was born on December 19, 1936 to his late parents, William and Pearl (Vickers) Barrie of Sydney Mines.
He is survived by his dear companion, Darlene Cameron of North Sydney; daughter, Patti Barrie of Alberton, P.E.I.; son, Dr. Michael (Marie Annik) Barrie of Port Hope, Ontario; their mother, Gwyneth (Bird) Barrie of Alberton, P.E.I.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Blaine (Evelyn) Barrie of Bedford, N.S.; sister, Willa Anne MacNeil of Halifax, N.S.; sister-in-law, Geraldine Barrie of St. John, New Brunswick as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In April, 1956, Arnel joined the RCMP. After serving at various detachments in Newfoundland, Labrador and Manitoba, he retired in April, 1989. Following retirement, the family moved to P.E.I. where they owned and operated The Lady Slipper Cottages for 13 years.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Murray and brother-in-law, Wayne MacNeil. By personal request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford.
