Obituary of Robert Joseph Gould

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Joseph Gould at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Monday, August 29, 2016. Born in Glace Bay on September 11, 1936, he was the son of the late William and Florence (Murphy) Gould. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Holland), sons, Robert (Dawn), Bill (Ann), and daughter, Marlene (Daniel) Johnson, all of Glace Bay; brother, Jim Gould, Glace Bay; brothers-in-law, Phonse Jessome and Junior Hagedorn, sister-in-law, Marie Gould; grandchildren, Erin Gould, Brendan Gould, Alison (Dale) Best, Kathleen Gould, Kevin Gould, Janet Ingraham, Rick Timmerman, Blair Shaw and Karie Shaw; also survived by several great-grandchildren. Bob worked for Devco for nearly forty years in several different mines. He recounted many "pit stories", some funny, some frightening, but always with fond memories of his workmates. In his retirement years, he enjoyed travelling to Newfoundland and also to numerous Cape Breton locations. He spent many summers in St. Peter’s visiting friends and made regular trips to Tim Hortons and McDonald’s in Glace Bay to meet up with his coffee break buddies. He also loved Newfoundland music and it would often be heard at his house on Tenth Street. Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Cavell (MacLeod), his daughter , Leah Anne Ingraham, his sisters, Evelyn Jessome, Delores Kurt, Winnifred Hagedorn, brothers, John (Bud) and Fabian. Special thanks to the staff of the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for making Bob’s final days as comfortable as possible. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St, Glace Bay. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. only in the funeral home. There will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton. Online condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca
