Obituary of Frank MacLean

MacLEAN, Frank Glace Bay Frank MacLean, lifelong resident of Glace Bay, passed away peacefully August 31, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his wife by his side. Born in Glace Bay on May 6, 1947, Frank was the son of the late Joseph and Sadie (Caswell ) MacLean. Frank was an adherent of St. Anne’s Parish and in his younger years a member of the Glace Bay Kinsmen and a sea cadet. An amateur historian, Frank enjoyed reading, documenting, sharing and collecting books. He had a passionate interest in the past. Frank was a draftsman and never lost interest in his artistic abilities. Many samples of work can be found in the home of friends who shared his enthusiasm. He was an LPN and for a while worked in health care. A man of many talents, Frank loved his hobbies and career but none brought him more joy than his years spent with the Cape Breton Victoria School Board as an educational assistant. Frank will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who savored life’s simple pleasures. He will be forever missed by Paula, his soul mate of 44 years and his brothers, John (Donna), Bridgewater, N.S. David (Dorine), Point du Chene, NB and his "favorite sister" Mary, Glace Bay, NS, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his parents, Frank was predeceased by a brother, Billy and Paula’s parents, Ben and Annie Boutilier. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass celebrating Frank’s life, officiated by Fr. Leo Boone , will be held on Monday September 5, 2016 at 10 a.m in St Anne’s Church, Glace Bay. A reception will follow in the foyer. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve street, Glace Bay. Donations in Frank’s memory can be made to the Children Wish Foundation.
