Obituary of Cecilia MacEachern, New Waterford

Cecilia MacEachern

New Waterford

It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Cecilia MacEachern, peacefully on April 12, 2019, at Seaview Manor in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. Born in Low Point, NS, Cecilia's kindness and deep faith were an integral part of the home she made in New Waterford, where she lived her entire life.

Cecilia was known for her gentle spirit and giving nature, and was loved by all who had the benefit of knowing her.

Cecilia is lovingly remembered and profoundly missed by her five daughters, Linda Boudreau (Kenny), Mary Lois Chesal (Jimmie), Barbara Hodgson (Harvey), Carolee Abraham (Chuck) and Terri Green (Todd). A loving and supportive mother, Cecilia was the very best role model five daughters could want. She is also survived by her dear sister, Frances MacMullin, and 11 grand children, Michelle Borden, Mark and Eric Boudreau, Laurie Magliaro and Karla Chesal, Luke and Zach Hodgson, Amanda, Kristen and Ryan Abraham, and Spencer Green, and three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Sam Borden and James Magliaro.

Cecilia was predeceased by her husband, Lauchie, her parents, Teresa and Jack McPhee, her sister and best friend, Mary Aucoin, and her three brothers, Charles Bernard, Greg and George McPhee.

Cecilia was proudly a graduate of Saint Joseph's nursing program, Glace Bay, in 1954, and finished at the top among Nova Scotian nurses on nursing provincial exams. She went on to be a deeply caring and devoted Registered Nurse for 40 years, with positions at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital and then with DEVCO. She also spent many hours in compassionate service, generously volunteering her nursing skills to help those within her community. Her commitment to the profession of nursing was surpassed only by her devotion to her family and her faith. Cecilia was an active member of Mount Carmel Parish and Saint Leonard Parish Catholic Women's League (CWL), and contributed to the parish in many ways, including as a Eucharistic Minister and as an active volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul Society food bank.

Heartfelt thanks go to the incredible staff of Seaview Manor, who were tremendously kind and compassionate during Cecilia's residency, and especially for their extraordinary care and concern for Cecilia and her family during her final days.
