Obituary of Marjorie Irene Broderick, Reserve Mines/Sydney

We cannot describe the sadness in our hearts as we announce the passing of the sweetest lady and kindest mother, Marjorie Irene Broderick on April 22nd, 2019 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Born February 9th, 1928 in Sydney, she lived 91 wonderful years.

Marge was the daughter of James and Beatrice (McNabb) MacAulay. She was predeceased by her adoring husband Reginald Broderick, who passed in 1991, and her infant sister Mary Margaret.

She was loved by many but especially her children; daughter Janice (Harold) McIntyre and son Jamie Broderick. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves behind three grandchildren; Lindsey (Steven), Jeffrey (Amy), and Taylor; as well as four great-grandchildren; Brooklynn, Lynnaya, Zachary and Jersey. Marge will also be missed by several cousins and her precious fur baby, Chloe.

A deeply religious woman, Marge was a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Reserve Mines. In her earlier years, she worked at Dominion Coal Company before leaving her job to spend her days with what was most important to her – her family. Marge and her family enjoyed many vacations to Maine as well as day trips to her sister-in-law Margie’s cottage in Margaree. She was also a talented cook and baker who loved nothing more than seeing her family enjoy everything she made. Many of her recipes have been passed on for generations and will continue to be enjoyed.

We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the doctors and staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Thank you to the nurses in 4B and the Palliative Care Unit who were incredibly kind and professional, not only to Marge but to the family as well. Marge was fortunate to be cared for by many great doctors including Dr. Kelly, Dr. Crosby, Dr. Sampson, Dr. Burns and Dr. Keating. We’d like to thank them for all they’ve done. We’d also like to express special thanks to her long-time family doctor, Dr. Liam Orrell, for always going above and beyond to give our mom the very best care.

Visitation will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Chapel and Reception Centre, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay on Sunday, April 28th from 6-9 pm. A celebration of Marge’s life will be held on Monday, April 29th at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Burial will be at a later date. Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Online condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca
