Obituary of Mike Abbott, Ben Eoin/ Glace Bay

We are completely heartbroken to announce the untimely death of 48 year old Michael Allen Abbott of Ben Eoin on May 6th, 2019.

Proud father of Dylan (Collette LeBlanc) of whom he was excited to be welcoming back home to Cape Breton. Loving husband of 25 years, to his biggest fan and best friend, Wendy, brothers Robert (Jackie) of Halifax, NS and Jeffery (Alicia) of Fredericton, NB, parents-in-law Michael and Joan Owens of St. Peter’s. Mike stressed many times that they were the closest thing to having his own parents and loved them dearly.

Also surviving are his sister's-in-law Pamela (Gerard) Sampson and Bernadette (Charlie) Palmer, brother's-in-law Tim (Marsha) and Richard (Bertha). Mike was proud uncle to Jeffery, Bree, Tyler, Olivia, Taylor, Cailley, Leah, Deanna, Holly, Jeremy, Grant and Haley and great uncle to Genevieve . He was predeceased by his nephew Jordan. All of whom loved their “Uncle Mike" stories and shenanigans.

Along with his 2 brothers, Mike was adopted into the Abbott family of Glace Bay and was always thankful for what they did for him. He also spent some time living with Lloyd and Maxine MacDonald of St. Peter's whom he spoke of as family. Mike had the pleasure of meeting loving members from his birth family. Lorraine Krakow, Lianne and Pete Prust, he spoke of them often and they helped him place some closure on that chapter of his life.

Mike was a good man. A funny, hard working, masterful carpenter for almost 30 years whose handiwork and talented skills were second to none. Mike was a keen golfer, lover of animals, and was passionate about the outdoors, especially trees! His friendship ran deep to those who knew him well and he would lend a hand to just about anyone. Finding his peace at the top of his favorite mountain in Ben Eoin with the most amazing view, Mike has requested to be cremated and “brown bagged". Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be Saturday, May 11th at the Tara Lynn Community Center, River Bourgeois at 2:30 pm. All are welcome to show support and share stories of this “one of a kind", wonderful soul.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Chapel and Reception Centre,16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. On line condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca
