Obituary of Mary Catherine (Mercer) Cochrane, Glace Bay
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, Mary, age 86 surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 14th, 2019 at the CBRH, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sabine (Odo) Mercer. Mary was a wonderful, kind, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her sister’s playing cards, they had lots of good times and plenty of laughter. She also liked bowling on Tuesdays with “ The Girls.”
Mom is survived by her children, Tom (Norma), Gary (Kim), Linda (Bill) and Betty. She was nanny to Michael (Amber), Kent (Natsumi), Jamie (Jaclyn), Brandon, Erin, Cerena (Angus), Zara (Steven), Kristen, Katherine (Tristen), great grandmother to Natalie, Emmett, Casey, Samantha and Melanie.
Mary is survived by her siblings, Gladys Spencer, Melvin Mercer (Sylvia) and her sister in law, Tillie Mercer.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband and our Da, Ernie Cochrane (December, 2017), they were married 66 years and are now together again. Mom was also predeceased by her sisters, Emma, Amy, Jessie, Georgina, May and brothers, Joseph & George.
Visitation is Monday Evening, June 17th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee is Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment will take place in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.

Mom was a loving, kind, gentle lady who loved us dearly; as we did her.
