It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen “Kay” King, age 85 on Wednesday, July 17th, 2019 at the New Waterford Hospital.

Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Mackie) Byrne.

In earlier years, Kay worked at Lipkus Fish Plant, Glace Bay. After marriage, she dedicated herself to raising her family. She really enjoyed baking, cooking, camping, sitting in her sun room and listening to Newfoundland music.

Kay is survived by her husband, Fred King, two daughters, Doris (Danny) Boutilier, Dominion, Cathie King, Port Caledonia, two sons, Arthur “Teddy” (Linda), Brian (Cathy), both in Glace Bay, one brother, Michael Byrne, Glace Bay, two sisters,  Sarah (Eddie) Lynk, Glace Bay, Josephine Carrigan, Reserve Mines, 13 grandchildren, Carey, Bryan “Spanky”, Dana, Christopher, Bradley, Megan, Amy, Mason, Courtney, Timothy, Denise, Trucker, Kalli, 8 great grandchildren, daughter in law, Rose, sister in law, Jean Burte and two special nieces, Sheila and Loie.

Kay was predeceased by her son, Timmy King, two brothers, Justin, Joe, a sister, Margie “Mammie” and a son in law, Gene.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 21st from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Chapel and Reception Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 am in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with Fr. Duaine Devereaux presiding; followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment in the parish cemetery.

Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Cancer Society. We would like to extend our appreciation to the special nurses on 1B at the CBRH, Sydney as well as the special nurses on the 2nd floor at the New Waterford Hospital.
