Obituary of Shirley Anita (Fortune) Starzyczny, N.W.

We are sad to announce the passing of our family member, Shirley (Fortune) Starzyczny, age 66 on Friday, July 26, 2019 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late John “Red” and Gladys (Mason) Fortune.

Shirley will truly be missed by her family and friends. She had a passion for dancing and family gatherings. Shirley very much enjoyed spending time with her extended family, the Gillis crew.

Shirley is survived by two sons, Charlie (Trina), Colin Starzyczny, her sister and best friend, Joyce (Charles) Burlock, fiancé, Jerome Onafray Gillis, seven grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a niece and nephew.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Johnny, Louie and two sisters, Marie and Irene.

Visitation is on Monday, July 29th from 2-4, 7- 9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard Church , Mt. Carmel Avenue, New Waterford. Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment in St. Agnes Cemetery. The reception will be held at St. Leonard’s Hall.
