Marguerite McIntyre, Glace Bay

Obituary of Marguerite McIntyre, Glace Bay

We remember the long and well-lived life of Marguerite (Coleman) McIntyre who passed peacefully on December 31, 2018 at the age of 94 at St. Vincent's Nursing Home in Halifax. Marguerite died with her customary grace and dignity. She was born in Glace Bay, in 1924, to William and Macy (Jessome) Coleman. She was predeceased by her parents and husband, Thomas “Dece” McIntyre.

Marguerite was a caring, generous lady with a great sense of humor. She was a long-time resident of Glace Bay, having worked at Carroll's Drug Store. She owned and operated for 16 years, McIntyre’s Dairy on Main Street on the hill. The Store as it was referred to was a gathering place for the local shoppers, before there was Sunday shopping. The local adolescents would use it as a place of gathering where many stories and anecdotes were shared with banter between all. After the Dairy was sold Mom and Dad lived on Hillside Avenue.

Marguerite is survived by her daughter in law, Hughena (Melanson) McIntyre, Musquodoboit Harbour; grandchildren Kelsey McIntyre, Moncton, Karice (Brad Blondin) McIntyre, Ottawa, and great-grandchild, Sophie Blondin.

Marguerite was a member of a large family. She is survived by sisters, Carmel Evasuk, Cole Harbour, Rose Marie Traynor, Toronto and brother, Adrien Coleman, Saint John.

She was survived by her son, Greg who unfortunately passed away in June of 2019, siblings, Dr. Bill Coleman, Helen Rooke, Anna Campbell, Gertrude Coleman (in infancy), Clare Peco, Gerard Coleman, Jackie Coleman (age 9) and Earl “Butch” Coleman.

In honouring Marguerite's wishes, cremation has taken place, there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, August 9th, 2019 with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, with a luncheon to follow in the church foyer. All are welcome to attend. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Fr. Duaine Devereaux presiding.

When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set on me, I don't want a gloom-filled room, why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little but not too long and not with your head bowed low, Remember the love we all shared, miss me but let me go.
