It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of our mother, Rita Josephine Murphy, 84 on July 24, 2019 in Edmonton.

Rita was the daughter of the late James and Phyllis MacQueen. She was a resident of Reserve Mines for many years. Although she lived in Alberta, Rita loved coming home to Cape Breton every year for a visit.

Rita is survived by her children, Carolyn Murphy, Ruby (Joey Mackie), Dolena Murphy, Nancy (Lenny Treige), Parker Murphy (Winna), Wilson Murphy (Anita), two brothers, Ernest MacQueen (Ann), Bernie MacQueen (Marie), 34 grandchildren, 37 great grand children and two great great grandchildren, Bobby Jolene and Genevieve Josephine.

Also surviving is Ma’s best friend and companion of 14 years, Bob Bennett from Alberta and their beautiful little dog, Maggie.

Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her husband, Wilson “Rory” Murphy, one son, James “Jimmie” Murphy, two daughters, Rita “Little Rita” Murphy, Cheryl (Murphy) Broderick, three sisters, Margie, Mary, Phyllis, three brothers, Ronnie, John, Lloyd, four grandsons, Kenneth Troy, Leon, Tyler, Chuck and one granddaughter, Bobby Jolene.

Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Service officiated by Lay Minister Martha MacDonald will take place this Saturday, August 24th, 2019 at 2 p.m. in Warden United Church, Glace Bay.
