It is with broken hearts, that we announce the passing of Joseph Daniel Petrie, age 99 at New Waterford Hospital on Saturday, October 5th, 2019 with his family by his side.

Born in Lingan, he was the son of the late Walter and Annie Petrie.

Joe was a member of St. Leonard’s Church.  He was a veteran and served overseas in the Second World War. He worked as a mechanic and enjoyed gardening for many years.

Joe was a member of Branch 15 Royal Canadian Legion and the K.O. C. where he enjoyed playing darts and meeting people. Joe never missed an event at the Legion, he also loved listening to the music of Jim Reeves and watching his Blue Jays baseball team. In his earlier years Joe played a part in setting up the Columbian Ball.

Joe would always give a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a true family man. He loved his family and the ‘Golden Girls ‘at the New Waterford Home Care as well as the nurses at New Waterford Hospital. He will also be missed by his caregivers, Kim Murphy, Cecilia Beaton, Tish MacKay as well as many nieces and nephews.

Joe is survived by his sons, Francis, New Waterford, Joey, Ottawa; brother, Daniel, New Waterford; sister, Mary MacKenzie and grandchild, Ian.

Besides his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his wife of 74 years Agnes; sons, Ronnie, David; brothers, Lionel, Walter and Dougie.

Visitation is on Tuesday, October 8th from 2-4, 7- 9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. The Kniight of Columbus will assemble for prayers at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard Church, Mt. Carmel Avenue, New Waterford. Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment in St. Agnes Cemetery. The reception will be held at St. Leonard’s Hall.
