Marie Patricia Nearing

Glace Bay

We the family of Marie Patricia Nearing (Roach) sadly announce her passing on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care surrounded by her loving, devoted family.

Marie leaves behind her husband of 58 years, James R. Nearing, their children, Charmaine (Doug Sampson) Sydney, Wendy (Robert Cooney) Mississauga, Michele (Dennis Neels) Chilliwack, Jim (Colette Crowell) Ottawa and Sherry (Rob Harris), Dominion.

Also survivng are her four beautiful granddaughters which she absolutely adored; Kayla (Will Rithaler), BC, Jessica Neels, BC, Kirsten Nearing, Ottawa and Ashley Nearing, Ottawa.

Mom was also blessed with four great grandbabies; Aliyah, Alexandra, Charlotte and Lincoln Rithaler, BC. She also had a great fondness for all of her grand puppies. Mom was known to all as a devout Catholic instilling her beliefs into the lives of her children, she was a wonderful wife, mother, protector and nanny to all.  Lovingly known as nanny to everyone, her family meant the world to her, she loved all and treated everyone with kindness, you could never just stop by at the house and mom would have the teapot steeping and lunch coming your way before you knew it.

Many fond memories can be had of mom doing what she loved baking for her family. Her baked goods were well know especially in the local Parish circles, she often baked for various functions and her baked goods were sought out by many.  When her children started moving on with their own lives in various directions she decided she wanted to do more, so she became a Lunch Bus Grounds Supervisor at John Bernard Croak School in Glace Bay. Mom was always ready to share a story or two about her day and all the children she became attached to.

At a later date in her life she was fortunate enough to start travelling, enjoying many new adventures with her family.

At her request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation; a mass to celebrate her life will be held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Main Street, Reserve Mines, Saturday, October 12 at 11:00 am. followed by a reception in the church hall. Father Duaine Devereaux officiating.

At this time the family would like to thank the staff of Steel workers for their care and kindness during mom’s illness.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, Heart and Stroke Society, Breast Cancer Awareness or a charity of one’s choice.

Love you lots Nanny!

Arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
