Mr. John William Murphy Gallie
May 12, 1986 - September 10, 2016
With sad hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved John. He was the kind of person that would try to make everyone laugh and always had a smile on his face.
John was born in Toronto but grew up in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. He spent his teenage years involved in the Army Cadet program where he received many medals and awards over the years and even went to Scotland on a 6-week exchange program. John was very proud of himself for all that he accomplished through the cadet program. John was a real life hero. He received the Carnegie Hero Award for rescuing 6 of his family members from a house fire.
John was also a loving father who cared deeply for his two children, Joshua Gallie Nightingale (Trina Nightingale) and Lyla Gallie (Martine Robichaud). They will miss him very much. He is survived by his parents Maryann Murphy (mother) John Philip Gallie (father), his four siblings Melanie Murphy (Justin Yates) Stephanie Gallie (Mike Andrews) Mathew Gallie and Melissa Gallie and his paternal grandparents Ronald and Lyla Gallie. He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents William and Ann Murphy. John will also be missed by his many aunts, uncles, 1st and 2nd cousins and the many friends made throughout his life.
A public visitation will take place on Thursday, September 15 from 12 Noon to 1:30 p.m.in the eco Life Celebration Centre - White Chapel of St. John's Norway Cemetery at 256 Kingston Road, Toronto (N/W corner of Kingston at Woodbine). A Funeral Mass will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, 71 Gough Avenue, Toronto, with cremation to follow. John will then return to Nova Scotia.
