Obituary of J. Ralph Curnew, Glace Bay
It is with heavy hearts that we the family of James Ralph Curnew Sr. age 89, announce his passing on October 22, 2019, at the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Ralph was born and raised in Glace Bay, and in 1948, he joined the Canadian Army, serving with the RCHA in Canada and overseas until 1964. Upon returning home, he worked, until his retirement at Canada Post as a letter carrier. Ralph was a lifetime member of Branch 3 Royal Canadian Legion, Glace Bay.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 62 years, Teresa (McNeil) Curnew; sister, Ruby Kuta, son, Ralph Jr. (Darlene); daughter, Deborah Lohrenz (Bradley); grandsons, Craig Curnew (Becky), Ty and Yurek Lohrenz; and great grandson, Seth Curnew.
Ralph was predeceased by his parents, James and Alfreda Curnew, his brother, Burte Curnew and his sister, Lavina Collins.
At his request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillvray Funeral Home, Chapel and Reception Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Church, Seaview Street, Glace Bay, on Friday, October 25, 2019, at 10:00am with Father Norman MacPhee officiating.
Burial will be at Holy Cross cemetery, Wallace Road, Glace Bay.
There will be a reception in the parish hall following the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit/Hospice, of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
