Melvin Finlayson, age 81 of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay and a former resident of Atlantic Drive, Reserve Mines passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016 at the manor.


Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Walter and Veronica (Fahey) Finlayson.


Melvin was in the construction business for most of his life. He was a quiet man by nature and was very family orientated. Melvin loved playing cards with his wife, family and neighbors; he truly loved all the social aspects of the game.


He is survived by his sister, Anne Murphy (Arnold), Reserve Mines and several nieces and nephews.


Besides his parents, Melvin was predeceased by his wife, Pearl (Baggs) Finlayson, a sister, Alice Almond and his brother, Charles Finlayson.


Cremation has taken place. The funeral service, officiated by Fr. Dan Boudreau is Thursday at 11 a.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay followed by interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
