Obituary of Marie Pembroke, Sydney/New Waterford

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our sister, Marie Pembroke, on Dec. 2, 2019.

Born in New Waterford Nov. 15, 1954, she was the daughter of the late William and Donna (MacNeil) Pembroke.

Marie left home at an early age to seek employment and adventure in Boston, where she eventually pursued a career in nursing, while living with family who previously settled there. She joyfully lived and worked in the Boston area and Ontario before enjoying retirement in her home of Cape Breton. A special thank you is extended to her aunt, Margie, who took Marie under her wing and helped foster her passion of caring for the elderly.

Marie is survived by siblings, Kevin (Mary), Mira, Donna 'Elaine' (Kenny) Rose, Lingan, Billy (Teresa), Glace Bay, Wayne, Sydney Mines, Adrian (Melanie), Kimberly, BC, and Diane (Mike) Gillis, Victoria Mines. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Family was a very important part of Marie's life, especially spending time with Wayne. She enjoyed crafts, baking and watching various sports. We will forever love and cherish our big sister.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A private chapel service will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford at a later date with burial to follow.
