Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Doyle, New Waterford and Formerly of N.E. Margaree

New Waterford/ Formerly North East Margaree It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth 'Aunt Mary' Doyle, 73, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital surrounded by her family. She passed away peacefully on Dec. 30, 2019, after a brief illness. Born February 9, 1946 in Cheticamp, she was the daughter of the late Mary Jessie 'Mamie' Poirier and Sylvester Henry Poirier. Mary was a member of the Pensioner's Club in New Waterford. She enjoyed many's a night at any bingo she could find and loved her knitting. She loved sharing laughs and playing cards up on 'the Hill' with her long-time friend, 'Aunt Kay'. She loved having her daughter around and spending time with her family. Mary will be remembered for her hearty laugh, precious smile and strange sense of humour. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Mary is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Chuck Ogley), New Waterford; sisters, Margaret Ann Butler (Allen), Kentville, Adele LeBrun (Pat), Toronto, Emily Mitchell (George), N. E. Margaree; brothers, Peter Poirier (Edie), Henry Poirier (Jolee), both of N. E. Margaree, Basil Poirier (Raylene), St. Joseph du Moine, Daniel Poirier (Sandra) Fort McMurray; special grandson, Anthony White and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Jessie Poirier and her father, Sylvester Poirier; brother, John Fortune; two brothers in infancy; long-time companion, Terrance White and dear friend, Catherine Hannigan. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2020 from 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford and Friday, January 10, from 3 - 9 p.m. in St .Patrick's Parish Hall, N.E. Margaree. A Funeral Mass of celebration will take place on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, N.E. Margaree, with Father MacDonald Ibeh officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery with a luncheon to follow in the Parish Hall. Memorial Donations may be made to the New Waterford Rotary Club or a charity of one's choice.
