Obituary of Roddie MacNeil, Glace Bay
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Roderick James “Roddie” MacNeil, age 50 at home on Tuesday, January 7th, 2020.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Mary (MacDonald) MacNeil and the late Hector MacNeil.
Roddie was employed by Atlantic Truck and Equipment, Sydport and was well known within the trucking industry. He was considered a loyal and honest employee as well as a friend too many. He was a great lover of animals.
Roddie is survived by his wife of 24 years, Julianne (Budden) MacNeil. Also surviving are his mother, Mary, brother, Buddy (Gloria), his sister, Cathy (Blair), all of Portage, his mother in law, Mona Budden, brother in law, Mark (Nancy), seven nephews, three nieces, two grandnieces and numerous aunts and uncles.
Besides his father, Hector, Roddie was predeceased by his father in law, Donald “Ted” Budden and his brother in law, Donnie.
Visitation is Monday, January 13th from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral service is Tuesday at 11 am in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines with Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating.
The reception will follow in the church hall. Cremation will take place after the service with interment at a later date in MacLeod’s Crossing Cemetery.
