David W.E. Rigby passed away peacefully on January 15, 2020 at the age of 62 surrounded by family and friends.
David was born on February 13, 1957 to Donnie and Mary (McIsaac) Henry.
He worked for Devco for 25 years. While there, he was part of the draggermen team, which he assisted in the Westray Mine disaster and received a Medal of Bravery.
David was a Captain with the NWVFD where he volunteered his services for 15 years.
Up until his illness, David worked as a Millwright in Fort McMurray, AB.
David is survived by the love of his life, Doris (Coady), after 43 years of marriage. Together they had three children that David was so proud of; David, Jason (Tanya), and Lindsay (Freddie); loving grandchildren, Dylan, Dallas, Neveah, Cash and Presley.
He will be deeply missed by his sisters and brothers, Fabian (Mary), Chuck (Heather), Donna Marie (Joey) and Raylene (Robert); his very special aunt, Sarah.
Extended family, Carol (Peter), Hal (Karen), Judy, Amby (Carmel), Joe(Jean), Nancy, Gerald (Debbie), Chris, Donna Lee; many nieces and nephews and very special friends (You Know Who You Are).
Besides his parents, David was predeceased by brother, Sandy and sister, Stasia; father-in-law, Harold, mother-in-law, Kay; sister-in-law, Maxine, and brother-in-law, David.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan, at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
