Obituary of Charles Richard Eksal, New Waterford

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Charles Richard Eksal of New Waterford on February 4, 2020 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney. Charlie was the son of the late Anna and Charles Eksal Sr. He is survived by his wife, Mary Eksal. Charlie is also predeceased by his loving son, Charles Daniel Eksal. He was the last of six siblings which include his sisters, Anne MacMillan, Mary Hutzol (William), Josephine O’Brien (Wallace) and brothers, Raymond Eksal (Hilda) and Richard Eksal (Violet). He was also survived by many nieces and nephews. Charlie was born in New Waterford and lived there his entire life. He worked for many years at Sydney Auto Parts in the machine shop, rebuilding car and truck engines and then, at the Lingan Mine from where he retired. Charlie was best known for his auto mechanics' abilities but he also loved to hunt and fish. A special thanks to Tom and Dorothy Gale and the extended family of Stephen and Katie Horyl Sr. for their kindness, love, and support to Charlie over the past few years. I would also like to thank the staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care (Saint Ann’s Bay section) for their devoted care of Charlie. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A celebration of life will be held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 11 a.m. with Deacon Lorne MacNeil officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be limited seating with masks and social distancing mandatory. Burial will be held in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations directly to the New Waterford Food Bank or charity of your choice. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
