Obituary of Mary Georgina 'Dodie' MacQuarrie, New Waterford

It is with sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Mary Georgina (McGillivray) MacQuarrie on Monday, February 17, 2020 at the New Waterford Hospital surrounded by love from her family and close friends. Dodie was the eldest of seven children born to George and Winnifred (Duffney) McGillivray on September 8, 1931 in New Waterford where she lived and raised her family. Dodie was a lifelong member of St. Leonard’s Parish, the St. Anne’s Society and the K.O.C. Ladies Auxiliary. Dodie leaves behind her children, Jackie (Colonel), Linda (Tim), Danny (Rachael), Michelle (Pat); daughter-in-law, Fonda; 12 grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren; sister, Tecie; brothers, Ray(Carol) and Donnie (Donna); sisters-in-law, Ag and Carol, Margaret (Jim), Kay, Willena and Sadie; brothers-in-law, Tom (Yvonne) and Gerry along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Dodie was predeceased by her husband, John; son, George; sister, Otie (Lorne); brothers, Ekie and Eddie (Ann); sisters-in-law, Mary (Cecil), Anna and Bernice (Russell); brothers-in-law, Neil, Greg (Mary), DJ and Eddie. Special thanks to VON, Home Care, the doctors and nursing staff at New Waterford Hospital and Diane Burke for their kind and compassionate care. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2020 at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. A luncheon will follow in St. Leonard's Parish Hall on Convent Street. Burial will be held in Mount Carmel Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Diabetes Canada, Cerebral Palsy Organization or a charity of choice.
