Dear Helen and family.
The Murray family and I grew up in the same neighbourhood and although I didn't know Johnnie, I did spend an hour on a back deck in his company. A very comfortable visit, as he had a personable way about him.
I did know, however, that he was a vital part of our community and will be greatly missed by so many who knew him well.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Helen, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. John was certainly one of a kind. He was the real deal, such a warm, humorous, dependable and true friend who constantly had me laughing. Many a time we worked together at Seaside, and he always seemed to make me laugh during the most stressful of times. I've missed his constant teasing as I've moved away, but their will always be a part of Johnnie (Johnster as I called him) in me as some of his sayings and jokes come out of me on a regular basis. Rest in peace dear friend.

I would be remiss if I did not share one (of many) funny stories from Johnny.
One night I was at home alone and Johnny knew it.
He had taken a roll of black thread, a black thumb tack and a no-shiny rusted nut and made a window tapper.
He stuck the tack above our kitchen window and had ran the thread from his upstairs bedroom window.
Then he proceeded to drive me to insanity by tapping the window pane.
At one point I came running out with a butcher knife to try and scare whoever was tapping the window and running away.
He waited until I was standing in front of the window and tapped again.
I did't have to follow the thread as his peals of laughter was so loud and uncontrolled that I knew who was behind it.
That was the Johnny Murray I knew!
Always making you laugh!

To the Murray and Heffernan families
For almost 50 years I was welcomed into your families and shared lots of happy times and some sad times as well. But none as sad as the deep loss I feel today. John Francois was my brother from another mother. I loved him dearly and I know he loved me because I was a victim of his constant teasing. He was my dear friend and I have so many wonderful memories of him. He was the best Charades partner, barbecued the best steaks and provided the best music but most of all he was just a great human being that I had the privilege of knowing. I know you’re in heaven John and free from pain. Please watch over us. Until we meet again. Affectionately The Loon xo

My sincere condolences to all affected by Johnny’s passing.
I have great childhood memories of Blaine and Johnny at B&J Dairy. Blaine was my godfather and the store sponsored and supported the first girls softball team in River Ryan. I will always remember my dad (Francis Cameron-deceased), Blaine Carpenter -deceased and Johnny constantly playfully harassing me and giving me the nickname of Larry. May they all be watching over us and having a grand time in peace.
Thoughts and prayers to Johnny’s family. RIP Johnny.

I was lost in life, wandering not sure who or what I would become when I met Johnny. I lived next door to his home when we were teens and had the pleasure of sharing his laughter, which there was much of, and sat at his supper table with his family many a time. Although I hadn't seen Johnny since then (1966) I remember the joy I felt when I was told he had married Helen and other tidbits of how he was at the post office and buying stores etc.....
Although we had only chummed about a short time he left an indelible imprint upon me and fond memories to this very day!
I am sure when he closed his eyes for the last time he would of heard the sweet voices of his parents and Helen's saying welcome home John!
As others have said, Johnny Murray was a man you could trust with your innermost secrets and dreams. He was a man of integrity and someone you valued as a friend.
Helen, if you read this, I always hoped and prayed that you would be happy in life and I felt the assurance of that when I heard you and Johnny were together.
May all the wonderful, happy, joyous memories you shared over the years now fill your heart and mind and bring you peace until you and he join hands again!

I am so sorry for your loss,my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Johnny. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Johnny was one of the funniest guys I have ever met and such a great guy. He was our mailman in Scotchtown and we always looked forward to the mailman but not for the mail but what he had to say. I have a lot of fond memories of our chats on the step before he moved on to the next house.

Dear Helen, our heartfelt condolences to you on the loss of Johnny. He was our mailman for a long time and we shared some stories and laughs with him.One time we had had our home address changed about three different times in a short period of time.I was in the yard one day when he arrived with the mail.As soon as he saw me he took out a pen and began writing on the front of the envelope. He had written no such address. With a very straight face he told me he would not deliver my mail anymore if the address was not correct.Iwill not say what I said to him but we both had a great laugh over it.He was a great guy and we know he will be remembered by many. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time,

Lots of fond memories of Johnny when he & Blaine Carpenter operated B & J’s Dairy in River Ryan. As a young teenager, when he would see me, the first thing he would say to me would be, “what are you going to be when you grow up”, referring to my larger size. He was one of a kind. RIP Johnny.
