Obituary of Maureen MacDonald, Tantallon/New Waterford

With saddened hearts we announce the passing of M. Maureen MacDonald, 58, on Saturday, March 7 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. Maureen fought a brave battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family and beloved dog, Teddy, until the very end. Born in New Waterford on January 23rd, 1962, Maureen was the daughter of the late Jody and Claire Ellsworth. She was also predeceased by her sister, Pat (Glenn) Wainman. Maureen worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse, before working as a cleaner for many treasured clients in Halifax. More recently, she worked out of Northern Alberta. Always outside with a passion for all things green, Maureen loved to spend time in her yard; she was often found trimming and maintaining her property. She had an infectious smile and laugh and would brighten any room she entered. Maureen had a wide circle of friends and she was always the first to lend a hand, no matter what the problem was. She was thankful to be able to share countless laughs and many cups of tea over the past year at “The Cottage”. Maureen is survived by her loving brothers, Donnie (Gwen) and Billy Ellsworth; her children, Jodi (Ryan), Cotter and Callum; her grandsons, Avery and Blake, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 14 at 10:30 a.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. A reception will follow at St. Leonard's Parish Hall on Convent Street. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
